Adventurous 1/2 Day Mt Wellington Tour

Hobart

Overview

After we pick you up from your accommodation or from a central Hobart location we then head off to magnificent Mt Wellington for fun, fitness, adventure and discovery.

Twenty minutes driving sees us at The Springs - the original source of Hobart Town's fresh drinking water. We start our walk at 720m ASL and do it easy across to Sphinx Rock - a magnificent treetop lookout which gives us great views of Hobart, the Derwent, Tasman Peninsula and Maria Island on the East Coast. This is one of Hobart's best spots, and you'd be surprised how many locals don't even know about it.

From here we head up across the face of the mountain on the old Sawmill Track to the base of the Organ Pipes, crossing boulder fields and mountain streams on the way. We get a great perspective on the cliffs from underneath.

We cut back across the mountain and then take the Zig Zag Track steeply up beside the cliffs, stopping for a delicious Gourmet Lunch at a carved dolerite bench seat with outstanding views of Hobart, the Derwent, Freycinet Peninsula, Storm Bay, Bruny Island and the Tasman Peninsula.

After a relaxing interlude, a short steep pinch sees us on the summit plateau and it's only five minutes from here to the summit!

We typically spend ten or fifteen minutes here admiring the panoramic views and basking in the glow of our efforts.
