Overview
The Tour stars from your hotel at 9.30am travelling in a luxury Limousine for a leisurely day tasting wine at one of Australia's greatest Wine Producing Region, the Barossa Valley. As we amble our way through the City, your guide will give you a brief description of the history of Adelaide and point out some of the highlights that we may encounter on our journey to the Adelaide Hills, Once in the Hills; you may want to view Adelaide from the panoramic view from Mount Lofty Summit. Our first tasting is at Petaluma, which is the cellar door to Bridgewater Mill. We then drive through Hahndorf, a historic German village settled in the 1840s. Our next tasting is at Nepenthe in Balhannah or Bird in Hand at Woodside. As we pass through Springton you may wish to visit the hollow tree which provided 'home' to Friedrich and Caroline Herbig and 2 of their 16 children from 1856 to 1860! We reach our destination at the Top of the Barossa in time for lunch at Vintners Bar & Grill, winner of the 2006 Best Regional Restaurant Award. (Lunch is included ~ entree, main course & a glass of wine.) While in the Barossa you can taste the full bodied Shiraz from some of the oldest vines in the world (over 164 years old) ~ from Charles Melton, Chateau Tanunda, Elderton, Rockford, Torbreck, Two Hands, Villa Tinto & Turkey Flat ~ to name but a few, call into Maggie Beers for a cup of coffee and try Maggie's famous products. Fancy discovering a new boutique winery or choose your own destinations ~ for Wine or Reason will take you there!! The Barossa Valley takes its name from the Barossa Ranges, named by Colonel Light in 1837. Light selected the name from the French Battle of Barrosa, in which he fought. Here you'll be joining 60% of all visitors to South Australia ~ it's undoubtedly Australia's best-known viticulture and winemaking region. Established in 1842 by immigrants from England, Germany and Silesia (now part of Poland),
